September 6, 2013
Liverpool FC, the UK football club that I have supported since I started watching football, recently came down to Australia for the very first time, as part of their 2013 pre-season tour. Prior to their match in the famous Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), LFC also played in Thailand and Indonesia.
The stadium was buzzing with 95,464 Liverpool and Melbourne Victory fans although stadium was overwhelmingly made up of Liverpool fans, who painted the stadium in a sea of red shirts, scarves and banners. There were a few firsts for me that night – seeing LFC players in flesh, singing YNWA aloud with scarf help up high, and seeing that many LFC fans at one place – altogether it was a goosebump-inducing atmosphere that I will never forget.
I shot this photo (made up of 2 really wide photos) when the teams were still warming up. It isn’t a perfect panorama, but having the honour of shooting LFC overrides photographic technicalities.
LFC won 2-0 that night, goals courtesy of Gerrard and Aspas.
